Eugeniusz Andrulewicz is a senior scientist and project leader at the Sea Fisheries Institute, Gdynia, Poland. His research field covers marine chemistry and marine ecology and underwater exploration. He is now involved in research and assessments of the biological effects of anthropogenic activities, ecosystem health studies, and ecosystem-based management. He earned a M.Sc. in Chemistry from Gdansk University and a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences from the Agriculture Academy in Szczecin. For 20 years he worked at the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management-Maritime Branch in Gdynia as a marine chemist, where he conducted field and laboratory measurements on salinity, oxygen, nutrients, trace metals, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and petroleum hydrocarbons. He is the author of approximately 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals and of more than 100 scientific, technical, and popular publications. Dr Eugeniusz Andrulewicz has been involved in various international governmental organizations, such as ICES, HELCOM, SCOR, IMO-MEPC, and GIWA, and in nongovernmental organizations, including WWF, CBO (Conference of the Baltic Oceanographers), and BMB (Baltic Marine Biologists). He was a member of the ICES Advisory Committee on Marine Pollution, the vice-chairman of the HELCOM Environment Committee, the vice chairman of the HELCOM Working Group on Monitoring and Assessments, the co-chairman of the HELCOM Working Group on Management Plans for Coastal Lagoons and Wetlands, and member of the Editorial Board of the German Journal of Hydrography. He is now co-chairman of GIWA Baltic Sea Sub-Region No. 17, a member of the Advisory Committee on the Marine Environment,a member of the ICES Advisory Committee on Ecosystems, and a member of the ICES Marine Habitat Committee.
